I didn’t, until I started digging deeper into my chronic anxiety, lack of energy, restless sleep and those aching leg cramps.

I had no major health problems. I was in decent shape. I ate a pretty healthy diet. So I couldn’t understand where all this was coming from.

My research led me to nutrient deficiencies, and specifically MAGNESIUM:

  • The magnesium content of food is now much lower than it used to be. 
  • The foods I thought were magnesium-rich were probably anything but.

The (surprisingly difficult) quest for an effective magnesium supplement…

Ok, I thought, nothing a magnesium supplement can’t solve! But all the easy-to-find, off-the-shelf, magnesium supplements I tried had no real noticeable effects at all. The majority of these are formulated with magnesium oxide and studies show that only 4% of orally administrated magnesium oxide is absorbed by the body.

It also very common practise for brands to dilute other types of magnesium like magnesium glycinate with magnesium oxide, this practise is called buffering and you’ll see the word buffered on the packaging (if they choose to disclose it, which the majority don’t). So even though you think you are buying a pure magnesium glycinate supplement, a large % of the magnesium content is coming from magensium oxide.

It was only when I started experimenting with blends of pure, non-buffered types of magnesium like magnesium glycinate, malate, citrate , l-threonate, and taurate, did I notice a HUGE difference.

I felt more energetic, my mood was more stable, I slept better, and I got more done. 

The catch? Supplements like these weren’t readily available here in the UK. I couldn’t argue with the benefits, but they weren’t easy to find, and there was no real awareness about their benefits.
